The Fairfax County Department of Management and Budget recently released the 2022 Rental Housing Complex Analysis. This annual report offers data on a variety of rental housing topics including monthly rental costs, inventory of rental units, and vacancy rates. The report shows that total rental inventory increased by 1 percent since 2021, with the inventory of subsidized rental units increasing by 9.2 percent. In addition, the report notes that average rent in the county increased by 2.3 percent from 2021. Questions regarding the report may be submitted via email to DMBInfo@fairfaxcounty.gov.
To increase the inventory of subsidized rental units, the Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority (FCRHA), in partnership with Fairfax County government, continues to make significant investments in the development and preservation of affordable housing. In the past fiscal year alone, there were over 1,200 affordable homes under construction with approximately 2,000 additional affordable units in the development pipeline. Additionally, the FCRHA owns approximately 3,900 units of affordable rental housing.
