FCRHA Awards $1.6M in Federal Funds to Local Non-Profit Housing Organizations

Funds to be used for the acquisition and rehabilitation of affordable rental housing for low-income households

At its last Board meeting in December 2017, the Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority (FCRHA) approved the awarding of approximately $1.6 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) funds to two local non-profits.  The funds will be used for the acquisition and rehabilitation of affordable rental housing for low-income households earning up to 30 percent and up to 50 percent, respectively, of the Area Median Income (AMI).

The total award is $1,622,956 and is comprised of $605,127 in CDBG funds, $788,261 in HOME funds and $229,568 in Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) funds. These funds will provide:

Pathway Homes, Inc. with $983,820 to acquire six 1-bedroom condominium units, scattered throughout Fairfax County, to provide affordable housing and supportive services to individuals who are homeless or precariously housed with incomes at or below 30 percent of the AMI and who have special needs related to mental illness, co-occurring substance abuse disorders, or intellectual disorders. Supportive services will be provided by Pathway through a partnership with the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board (CSB).

Good Shepherd Housing and Family Services with $639,136 to acquire and renovate two 2-bedroom units and one 3-bedroom unit in a targeted area of Alexandria. Residents will be provided rental housing as well as services to support their progress toward self-sufficiency. These units will serve one elderly tenant and two families with incomes at or below 50 percent of AMI who have experienced homelessness.
