The Fairfax County Department of Housing and Community Development is pleased to introduce Mark Buenavista as the new director of its Design, Development and Construction Division. As leader of the division, Mark’s team is responsible for the overall planning, development, acquisition, design and construction of affordable housing projects, both new and preservation, including projects owned by the Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority and projects developed thorough public-private partnerships.
Buenavista began his career in the private sector working for architectural firms responsible for a wide range of projects including feasibility studies, master plans of large-scale developments, architectural design and construction administration of historic, commercial, and residential projects, and preservation. He has also worked for a number of government agencies where he managed teams with the responsibility for the planning, programming, design and construction administration of large, complex capital improvement and Public-Private-Partnership projects in coordination with community groups and various government agencies. His most recent experience is with Fairfax County Public Works and Environmental Services, Building Design and Construction Division, as a Project Coordinator where he was responsible for Public-Private-Partnership projects and beginning-to-end management of large-scale projects.
Buenavista has both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Architecture, is a registered architect and Certified Construction Manager, and is a member of multiple professional associations including the American institute of Architects, Design-Build Institute of America, and Urban Land Institute.
He will begin his new position at HCD on March 15, 2021.
