80 new affordable homes coming to Falls Church
Governor Abigail Spanberger joined Fairfax County Chairman Jeff McKay, Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority Chair Lenore Stanton, and Providence Supervisor Dalia Palchik on Wednesday, Sept. 2, for a tour of Telestar Court in Falls Church.
The community, currently under construction, will deliver 80 affordable homes adjacent to the amenity-rich Mosaic District. Telestar Court was formerly a medical office building. It is Fairfax County’s first conversion of under-utilized office space into affordable housing. The FCRHA invested $8 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds in the acquisition of the Telestar site. FCRHA and Telstar Court developer Merrifield Housing, LLC, have a ground lease that ensures affordability for 99 years. FCRHA also provided 27 Project Based Vouchers to the development.
“It is only through partnership that we can make Fairfax County a community everyone can afford to call home,” said Chair Stanton. “In the case of Telestar Court, partnership with private development has led to creatively repurposing an unused medical office building into 80 affordable homes where people will soon be able to live, work and thrive.”
“Affordable housing is key to Fairfax County’s economic development, Chairman McKay. “Simply stated, we need the workforce who needs affordable housing in order to continue our economic growth.”
“Telestar Court is located near the Mosaic District, one of Fairfax County’s key employment areas and most desirable locations. This underscores our commitment to creating affordable homes across all zip codes, particularly in areas close to amenities such as mass transit, jobs and retail,” said Supervisor Palchik.
