Ilda's Overlook
Fairfax
Privately-Owned Affordable

The name" Ilda’s Overlook" is a nod to Black history, refrencing a community founded by Moses Parker and Horace Gibson, two blacksmiths who were formerly enslaved but purchased their freedom and a plot of land after the Civil War. They created a bustling, integrated neighborhood and named it after Gibson’s daughter Matilda’s affectionate nickname, Ilda.
CONTACTS
ABOUT
Until 2012, the site of Ilda’s Overlook was the Northern Virginia Training Center. Upon the closure of the Center, ownership of the state- owned property was transferred to Fairfax County, and then sold to Woodleigh Chase LLC, a subsidiary of Erickson Living (Erickson). As part of the land entitlement process, Erickson proffered the donation of a portion of the site to a non-profit for the construction of senior affordable housing. Erickson subsequently entered into an agreement with the non-profit, True Ground Housing Partners (formerly Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing, Inc.), for the development of the senior affordable housing. Ilda's Overlook utilized mostly private financing resources, which is uncommon among highly affordable initiatives.
