Murraygate Village Creates Native Plant Garden with Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington

Murraygate Village Apartments in Alexandria recently added more greenery to its property, thanks to a community collaboration with Nature Forward and the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington.

The complex – which is owned by the Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority – benefited from a grant from the U.S. Forest Service to add a tree canopy and native garden.

The planting event was completed by resident children as well as the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington. They learned about the role and importance of local trees and plant species in pollination, conservation, reproduction, and the symbiotic benefits of animals and plants in their region.

Together with Nature Forward, a 125-year-old organization committed to the inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility of nature for all in the DC region, Murraygate Village residents planted 27 trees and 1,250 square feet of gardens.
