National Association Announces Scholarship Opportunities for Affordable Housing Users

The National Leased Housing Association (NLHA), an organization that represents private and public affordable rental housing industry partners, announced scholarship opportunities for people who reside in federally assisted rental housing. High school seniors, current undergraduates, non-traditional students, and those seeking a technical/vocational degree are encouraged to apply.

The scholarships are made available through the NLHA’s Education Fund. Twenty-nine scholarships totaling over $1.5 million were awarded last year.

Scholarship Categories for New and Returning Students

Funds are provided directly to the educational institution for tuition assistance on behalf of successful applicants upon confirmation of need. Applicants may only apply under one of the following categories:

  • The AIR Gives Opportunity Scholarship is designed to assist college freshmen or returning undergraduates.

  • The Bill Gandert Memorial Vocational Scholarship is directed to graduating high school seniors interested in studying a specific trade (electrician; nurse; plumber; medical assistant; hair stylist; paramedic; etc.)

  • The Mary Lou Manzie Memorial Scholarship provides assistance to nontraditional students (students who have been out of high school for at least three years) in pursuing an associates or undergraduate degree.

  • The Neil Churchill Memorial Scholarship is provided to those eligible applicants who are seeking to complete graduate level coursework.

How to Apply

Specific criteria have been developed for each scholarship category and consideration will be afforded to all eligible candidates who apply. The deadline to apply is April 12, 2024. Interested persons can apply electronically directly at NLHA Scholars. Awards are expected to be announced in early June.
