For many in Fairfax County “Affordable Housing” is a phrase fraught with mystery and misconception. With thousands of residents across the county struggling to make ends meet, and countless more unable to find price appropriate housing options in the communities where they work because their incomes cannot support the rent, having price-appropriate housing to accommodate our neighbors across the income spectrum is more important than ever.
A new video recently produced by Fairfax County – “What is Affordable Housing?” – seeks to elevate the conversation about affordable housing by providing a basic understanding of what those words mean, why it is a critical priority, and how Fairfax County pursues the development of affordable housing options for low- to moderate-income households.
Fairfax County has committed to creating a minimum of 5,000 new affordable housing units by 2034. With more than 1,500 new units in various stages of development, the county is off to a great start. But achieving and surpassing this goal will take a communitywide effort. “View, Like and Share” this video to help spread the word that Fairfax County is elevating the conversation about affordable housing, and we want everyone to be a part of it!
