The Fairfax County Department of Housing and Community Development is pleased to introduce Ryan Sherriff, as its new director of the Real Estate Finance and Grants Management Division. Ryan will lead these two operational areas that fund and finance a broad array of affordable housing and community development programs and real estate developments. Ryan’s duties will include administration of major federal grants and leading the FCRHA’s practice as the county’s local housing finance agency – including tax credit financing, local development lending and FCRHA bond issuance.
Ryan has over 15 years of experience in the affordable housing field, including affordable housing development, housing policy, real estate financing, and grants management. After starting his career in affordable development, he worked for several years with the National Housing Conference/Center for Housing Policy, where he managed housing policy research and advocacy projects across a variety of areas including affordable rental housing recapitalization and preservation, Low-Income Housing Tax Credit, government-sponsored housing finance, and shared equity homeownership. He then moved to Greystone Servicing Corporation where he held roles in affordable asset management, underwriting and the origination of affordable financing transactions. Ryan’s career then led him to Freddie Mac where he led multiple affordable lenders accounts in structuring and negotiating financing for new construction, acquisition-rehab, and refinancing of affordable housing. His most recent position was with Capital One where he managed the Mid-Atlantic Impact Team, which oversees all community impact grantmaking and engagement.
Ryan has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in City and Regional Planning - Real Estate and Community Development from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He has also served on the Leadership Council of the Northern Virginia Affordable Housing Alliance (NVAHA) and Local Advisory Committee of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) DC.
Ryan will begin his new position at HCD on March 29, 2021.
