The Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority (FCRHA) has been awarded $304,980 in federal funding through a collaborative program of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to provide assistance for homeless veterans in finding affordable, stable housing.
This collaborative federal Supportive Housing program – known as HUD-VASH – combines rental assistance voucher programs for homeless veterans administered by HUD with case management and clinical services provided by the VA. The funding provided to the FCRHA will provide an additional 25 affordable housing vouchers for veterans – bringing the county’s total number of vouchers available through HUD-VASH to 133. Eligible voucher applicants are referred to the county by the VA. Veterans participating in the HUD-VASH program rent privately-owned housing and generally contribute no more than 30 percent of their income toward rent.
Since 2008, more than 93,000 vouchers have been awarded nationwide through HUD-VASH, and approximately 150,000 homeless veterans have been served. The Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority is one of more than 600 public housing authorities who have received and administer vouchers through the program.
