From the Ground Up: Affordable Housing at North Hill is Coming Along Nicely

In August of 2020, the community came together for a combined in-person/virtual ceremony commemorating the beginning of construction for one of Fairfax County’s most anticipated affordable housing developments along the Richmond Highway Corridor – The Residences at North Hill. Today, on that same location, stand four buildings and the beginnings of a fifth – evidence of the outstanding progress made on the 279-unit affordable housing community.

"As we said in the beginning, this project has been literally 30 years in the making. To drive past it today and see it transitioning from blueprint to reality with the promise of so many homes for our low- and moderate-income families and older adults, I can’t help but be excited for what lies in store as we look ahead to 2022.”

Chairman Melissa McKenna Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority

The Residences at North Hill is being constructed through a public-private partnership on 33 acres owned by the Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority. The community, to be owned and operated by the development partner – Pennrose – will include 216 affordable multifamily apartments and 63 affordable independent living apartments for older adults. The project will also incorporate the construction of a 12-acre public park to be operated by the Fairfax County Park Authority and a community of 175 market-rate townhomes adjacent to the apartments.

Leasing activities for The Residences at North Hill are expected to begin in the Summer of 2022. Interested individuals/households can submit contact information to be notified when the application period opens through the Contact section of Pennrose's website for the community - www.pennrose.com/apartments/virginia/residences-at-north-hill.
