Get a Jump Start in Transitioning to a Career in Healthcare


The Avenues to Career Training program offers a free 8-week online course to help participants get a head start on transitioning to a career in the healthcare industry.

The program exposes students to a wide variety of occupations in the healthcare field and connects them with professionals in several fields of emphasis. Students hear from guest speakers and chart their career path in their chosen emphasis, complete with major goals and milestones.

The online program will run from September 9 – November 6, 2020 from 1-4 p.m., Monday – Friday.

Over the past year, 30 students graduated from the Avenues to Career Training program. Past graduates of the program have pursued obtaining a Certified Medical Assistant credential and have enrolled in nursing programs at local colleges.

Those with interest in participating may choose to attend one of six scheduled Zoom information sessions at 1 p.m. to learn details about the program. Sessions will be on the following dates:

  • August 4

  • August 5

  • August 11

  • August 12

  • August 18

  • August 19

The Avenues to Career Training Program is a partnership with the Department of Housing and Community Development, Britepaths, the Lorton Community Action Center, United Way of the National Capital Area, Computer Core, and the Financial Empowerment Center at South County.
